Madison County's updated breast cancer statistics October 7, 2011 Five years after learning that Madison County had the highest incidence rate for breast cancer in the state, new statistics show that while the incidence rate is going down, the late-stage diagnosis rate remains high. New technology allows for minimally invasive breast biopsy July 29, 2011 At the Battelle Breast Care Center at Madison County Hospital, we use a "stereotactic biopsy" method as a minimally invasive way to biopsy very small breast abnormalities. Not only can this procedure test for breast cancer at the earliest and most treatable stage, but it can be done with minimal discomfort. New ED Discharge Procedure at MCH October 29, 2010 Starting in early November, MCH will be instituting a new discharge procedure in the Emergency Department to offer patients the opportunity to pay their co-pay or deposit amount before they leave. Cure Your Fears — MCH's breast cancer awareness campaign October 7, 2010 In support of MCH’s ongoing fight against breast cancer, the Columbus Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure awarded the MCH Foundation a $100,000 grant this year.It is funding a “Cure Your Fears” campaign featuring Madison County women who have survived breast cancer. The campaign stresses that early detection is essential to surviving breast cancer and asks women not to be afraid of getting screened. This year featured Dr. Don Hura, MCH’s newest general surgeon, who presented “Getting Older, Staying Young.” State of Madison County Hospital July 7, 2010 A little over a year ago the leadership of Madison County Hospital made some difficult decisions to ensure the future success of the hospital. After much consideration, we closed our extended care unit and transitioned our Home, Health and Hospice services to Universal. We made those changes in response to the difficulties facing hospitals nationwide such as declining reimbursement, rising costs, and an increase in uncompensated care. Our primary concern was to keep the hospital financially secure so we could continue to provide compassionate and quality health care. Madison County Hospital Setting the Standard for Infection Prevention July 2, 2010 According to the Center for Disease Control, it is estimated that four to five percent of all patients get an infection while in the hospital. However, at Madison County Hospital there has not been a hospital-acquired infection since December of 2008. Smoke Free in 2009 December 15, 2008 Madison County Hospital is planning to join other hospitals across Central Ohio in creating a tobacco-free campus. The initiative, still in early planning stages, would prohibit tobacco use on the hospital campus including private and hospital owned vehicles and adjacent properties.
