Urology
Urology is a surgical specialty that deals with diseases
of the male and female urinary tract and the male reproductive
organs. Although urology is classified as a surgical specialty,
the urologist, because of the wide variety of clinical problems
encountered, requires knowledge of internal medicine, pediatrics,
gynecology, and other specialties.
One of the latest innovations in the treatment of kidney stones
is available at Madison County Hospital. Holmium Laser Lithotripsy
is the most cost and time efficient method of definitive treatment
for patients with stones in their kidneys or ureters. The procedure
uses a laser to break the stone into dust-like granules of sand.
The outpatient procedure lasts from about 30 minutes to two
hours, depending on the size and location of the stone and recovery
time is minimal.
The Holmium Laser procedure and the range of urology services
at Madison County Hospital means patients receive the most advanced
treatment and technology available anywhere.
Other urology treatments available at Madison County Hospital
include:
Pediatric Urology
Urologic Oncology (cancer)
Prostate conditions
Male Infertility
Calculi (urinary tract stones)
Female Urology (urinary incontinence and
pelvic outlet relaxation disorders)
Neurourology (voiding disorders, urodynamic
evaluation of patients, and erectile dysfunction or impotence).
The specialty of urology is constantly changing. As advances
are made in the treatment of urologic conditions, Madison County
Hospital will be among the first to make these new treatments
available to its patients.
