As a patient on the Rehab Unit, you will follow your own unique
road to recovery. It is the mission of our family-friendly, dedicated
staff to assist you with your journey.
Your recovery might include relearning activities of daily living,
such as dressing, cooking, bathing, eating, walking and transferring
to your car or favorite chair. Our Rehab Team can help teach you
new ways of accomplishing these life skills.
You will also receive education on your daily medication, skin/wound
care, bowel and bladder training and community resources.
Regardless of where you have your surgery or are hospitalized,
you can experience your inpatient rehabilitation at Madison County
Hospital. Being close to home, family and friends can help your
progress during this process.
Our Rehab Team considers rehabilitation a success when you meet
your goals and regain as much independence as possible.
Pediatric Rehabilitation Services
The Pediatric Rehabilitation program has been designed to specifically treat children (ages birth to 21 years of age) with a variety of neurological, developmental and rehabilitative issues.

Pediatric Rehabilitation is needed in order for children to gain/regain functional independence. For some children, therapy is needed to improve joint range of motion or strengthening. For many patients, therapy involves working on developmental skills, i.e. rolling, sitting, crawling, walking and jumping. We utilize creative play to enhance an atmosphere of fun, motivating the child to acquire the skills needed to improve his or her environment.
Whether it’s recovering from an injury, illness or assistance with the challenges of daily life, our rehabilitation team works with you and your family to maximize your child’s abilities.
Extended Care Unit

The Extended Care Unit offers a comprehensive medical and
rehabilitation program that provides skilled and intermediate
nursing services for our patients. Licensed therapists provide
speech, physical and occupational therapy if necessary. Licensed
nurses under the direction of a physician provide medical care.
Additional services such as specialized physician services, radiology,
laboratory services, pharmacy, audiology, and social services
are conveniently located within the hospital.
The length of stay in the Extended Care Unit is determined by
each individual patient's needs. The discharge planning process
begins prior to admission at which time patients and families
discuss goals for recuperation and plans for on-going care if
needed.
An array of activities are coordinated by a trained activity director
with special attention given to the physical, mental, social,
and spiritual needs of each resident. Groups and one-on-one interaction
are offered on a daily basis.
The extended care staff is an interdisciplinary team and is dedicated
to providing the best quality of health care services to achieve
optimal outcomes for you or your loved ones.

Outpatient Rehabilitation at Madison County Hospital provides
a wide range of services to help you regain your highest level
of function. Whether you are recovering from an injury or illness,
or just need assistance with the challenges of daily life, our
rehab services team works with you to maximize your abilities.
Occupational Therapy

The goal of occupational therapy is to restore function
to the best of each patient's ability. Occupational therapy enables
our patients to gain satisfaction and independence by performing
activities of daily living work, play or self-care
for themselves.
Our dedicated team of professionals strives to help patients improve
circulation, restore motion, strengthen their upper body, relieve
pain, and correct and prevent deformity. Our occupational therapy
staff can design custom splinting, recommend adaptive equipment,
and work to restore psychological, physical and cognitive independence.
Our occupational therapy staff can help patients with various
challenges, guiding them through activities such as exercise,
splinting, bathing, dressing and cooking.

Physical
therapy promotes healing and assists patients to regain movement,
and restore function to an injured body part. Our therapists also
aid in rebuilding a patient's confidence and relieving pain and
discomfort while working toward recovery.
Common problems treated with physical therapy:

Pain during or after pregnancy
Treatment may include techniques to decrease pain and swelling,
as well as exercises to increase strength and mobility. Other
treatments include therapeutic exercise, pelvic or cervical traction,
electrical stimulation ultrasound, wound care, gait training,
manual therapy and massage.
Our treatment is not all physical. Education on topics like joint
protection, back safety, body mechanics, posture education and
home exercise instruction also play a role in the recovery process.
Our staff plans for the needs of patients upon discharge, and
provides a continuum of care from the inpatient to the outpatient
setting.
Madison County Hospital's Sports Medicine program provides care
for all sports related injuries and helps to improve athletic
performance. Whatever your sport, having the MCH Sports Medicine
staff rooting for you can help you make the most of your athletic
abilities.
Speech Therapy and Audiology

Speech therapy provides a wide range of services to patients
who exhibit difficulty with communication or swallowing.
Such difficulties may result from:
Stroke
Head injury
Progressive disease
Cancer
Vocal abuse or misuse
Developmental delays
Mental retardation
Our speech pathologist is trained to perform Modified Barium Swallow
Studies on patients with swallowing difficulties. The study helps
to determine an appropriate diet which will eliminate the risk
of aspiration pneumonia.
Our audiologist is available to perform tests which help detect
hearing loss, and determine whether the loss is medically treatable.
Tests can also determine how much a patient might benefit from
the use of hearing aids. Advice on hearing aids is also available.
Our sound booth has a speaker system available for testing young
patients and those with special needs. Testing on the middle ear
system, tympanometry, is provided if necessary.
